Get your kids to eat sandwiches with this apple sandwich recipe. Shhhh!!! Don’t tell them there’s also cheese and turkey!
I remember when we just finished the puree food stage with my son and meal planning was such a chore. We were out on playdates several times a week and when lunchtime rolled around all of us moms would say, “I wish they would just eat sandwiches!” Well, this is the recipe that got my son to eat sandwiches. He’s now 4 years old and it’s still pretty much the only sandwich he will eat. I hope your kids enjoy it too!
Apple Sandwich Recipe
- Sandwich Bread (I buy good old white bread. I don’t believe it’s any better or worse than the other options, and more importantly, my kids eat it!)
- Sliced Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- Fuji Apple cut into thin slices (Any crisp variety will do)
- Mayonnaise
- Sliced Turkey
Directions
Assemble sandwich with above ingredients. Doesn’t get any simpler than a recipe with one step!
DIY Food Pick Template
Mealtime is a great opportunity to incorporate Chinese learning. Since we have these apple sandwiches often, I decided to make custom food picks. Plus we have so many of these bamboo skewers it’s a good way to use them up! My daughter is not yet 2 and a half and has learned 三明治 (sandwich) just from today’s lunch. In time she will recognize 蘋果 (apple) as well.
There are two files. This file print on red paper for the apple shape. This file print on white paper. Cut out the shapes. If you have a small hole punch you can punch holes for the skewer. You can also use tape, glue stick, or Elmer’s glue.
*To save ink, change your printer settings to print black only. By default your printer will use both color and black ink cartridges, even if you are only printing black and white.
