About Camp Taiwan
Founded in 2005 by a Canadian couple who fondly remembered their childhood camp experiences, Camp Taiwan is the only authentic North American-style camp in Taiwan. Their mission was to bring summer camp joy, personal growth, and camaraderie to children in Taiwan, creating a place where kids can thrive in an environment that encourages individual development, environmental responsibility, and cultural awareness.
At Camp Taiwan, children are encouraged to embrace challenges, explore their creativity, and form connections with others in a fun and supportive atmosphere. The program offers a mix of traditional camp activities in a multicultural setting, allowing campers to develop outdoor and social skills while making lifelong memories and friendships. Camp Taiwan aims to provide each child with an unforgettable summer experience that helps them grow, learn, and discover their potential within an inclusive, vibrant community.
Camp Activities
At its heart, Camp Taiwan is all about connecting with nature and trying new things. With a wide variety of activities, campers can explore their interests and push their limits in a safe, supervised environment. Campers can climb an 18-meter climbing wall, zip through the air on a zipline, go river tracing, or hunt for bugs in the wild. They can also practice archery and unleash their creativity through arts and crafts. All activities are designed to promote personal growth in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. The camp program alternates between the classic Camp Taiwan experience and themed programs for campers who stay more than one week.
Camp Life
Campers live in tent cabins with 4 to 6 children per tent. They participate in activities in teams of 12 to 15 campers, with 3 tent groups forming a larger activity team. These teams and tent groups travel and engage in activities together throughout the camp. In addition to having fun, campers also have responsibilities, such as helping prepare the dining hall for meals and maintaining clean living spaces. This structure teaches children to respect each other’s personal space and work together as a team.
Language
Camp Taiwan is a dynamic mix of local Taiwanese students and expatriate campers, each bringing their own unique background and language skills. Most activities are conducted in English during the summer, while the spring program focuses on Mandarin. Campers naturally switch between English and Mandarin, encouraging authentic communication and cultural exchange. Whether a camper is fluent in a language or just beginning to learn, they can fully engage in all activities. The supportive environment helps every child gain confidence, make friends, and participate in meaningful conversations—all while practicing a new language in a fun and natural way.
