Asian Foodie Valentine’s Day Cards

Spread the love with these punny Asian Foodie Valentine’s Day cards. This idea came from my seven-year-old who is totally into jokes right now. He tries really hard to come up with his own and helped me create these phrases.

The cards are designed in English and Chinese—Traditional Chinese, Traditional Chinese with Zhuyin, Simplified Chinese, and Simplified Chinese with Pinyin. Scroll to the bottom of the page, click on the desired version to download. Just print, cut out and give to your favorite foodies!

This project was inspired when my son was trying to say “beautiful” but said “bluetiful” instead. “Bluefiful like a blueberry! My favorite fruit!”, He cracked himself up.

“你是我的菜” translates to “You are my vegetable” but in this case the word vegetable actually means “dish”. However, “你是我的菜” is slang for “You are my type”.

Can you name all the eggs in this cartoon? From left to right: Salted duck egg (鹹鴨蛋/咸鸭蛋), tea egg (茶葉蛋/茶叶蛋), and century egg aka 1000-year-old egg (皮蛋).

“搗蛋鬼” is synonomous to “little rascal”, an affectionate way to describe someone that is naughty but cute. “可愛的搗蛋鬼” means “cute rascal”.

In Mandarin, boba is called “珍珠” which translates to “pearl”. In English, “Pearl” is a term of endearment akin to “寶貝/宝贝”.
